Bokeh: the out of focus area of an image

How it's done:

Place your homemade filter in front of the lens
Snap your picture.

To make a filter:
Fold a recipe card in half.
Cut or punch a shape out of the center.
Unfold.

Settings:
Night portrait mode (flash + long exposure)
The flash illuminates your close subject and the slow shutter speed allows the camera to capture the light in the background.
ISO 400

Christmas Collage 2011

It feels like Christmas was so long ago, but it was only 30 days ago.  I was thinking about all of the gifts we gave to each other and how many of them are still getting used or are just as exciting today as the day we received them.  Dennis got me three things that were homerun's for sure and I use them every single day.
1: A beautiful silver bracelet.  2. A coffee bean grinder. 3. An electric heated lap blanket.
Here's a collage of Christmas morning at our house:

What was your favorite Christmas gift?  Are you still using it?

2010 Christmas

As usual,  I'm running behind on my posts.  It's already January 2nd.  I should be wishing you all a happy new year, So Happy New Year.  Now backtrack with me a little bit....

Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year.  I love a beautiful home decorated with all the Christmas trimmings.  I love time spent with family and friends.  I love shopping for gifts, planning trips and looking forward to special dinners and get-togethers.

This year we traveled to Ohio for the Minniear Christmas get-together.  All of Dennis' family met in Columbus at his oldest brother Davids house.  I didn't think to take my camera, so no photos of the event from me.  I can sum up the day with three words... Food, Cards, Naps.  Oh and I should mention that our menu was quite different.  Oh, yes we had tukey and ham.  But we also had Bear and Goose.  I tried both and found out that I really like Bear!  Who knew.

December 22-24 was spent with my family in Indianapolis.  I've posted photos here.

Late Christmas eve we drive back home to Evansville so that the kids can wake up Christmas morning at our house.

CHRISTMAS DAY

Logan finally gets a real gun

Isaiah got a new flat screen tv for his room

Evan got a new stereo and speaker system for his Jeep

Isaiah also got a new Compound Bow and some more arrows

So excited to try out his gun!  The good thing is we live out of city limits and have fields behind the house so he's been able to do some shooting.

I hope your family had a magical Christmas this year.
My favorite part was being reminded throughout the month that without Jesus coming to us as a tiny baby, we would not have been given the best gift of all....The gift of eternal life through the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior!

Building Runs in the Family

My dad is a custom home builder, so I'm guessing that's where Isaiah gets his love of building and decorating Gingerbread Houses in December. It's hard not to eat the gingerbread houses as we unpack them from the box. It's fun to lick our fingers as we pipe frosting and nibble on red and green candies. I think they put more candy in the bag just for us nibblers. Anyway, here are the pictures of Isaiah creating his gingerbread masterpiece!

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Got the house all dressed for Christmas over the weekend. Here are a few of my favorite things.

Don't you just love my little train salt and pepper shakers? How about the centerpiece I got on clearance at Hobby Lobby for $5 last year? The first thing Isaiah does each morning in December is move the snowflake to countdown to Christmas.
I love this little tea light holder. A friend gave it to me and I've been putting it in my kitchen for years.
This is the Christmas tree in the kids game room. It's loaded full of their yearly ornaments and several handmade ornaments from church and school throughout the years.
A little snowman sits at the bottom of the garland wrapped banister.
About 7 years ago, when we lived in Ohio, mom and my sister Tracee and I made swags for decorations on Thanksgiving weekend. Mine still hangs in my home every year.

When I used to teach scrapbooking classes in Ohio, one of my favorite students made this for me and gave it to me for Christmas.
Tigger's stocking is hung and waiting for goodies to fill it!
Mr. Snowman and his reindeer greet you when you come in the front door.
My mother in law gave me this beautiful nativity set one year. It sits on my dining room table.
The front door wreath I won at a church Christmas party back in 1999.
The front entry way, garland winds it way up the stairs and across the cat walk.
The Family Room

The Christmas tree in the sunroom. It's a little fiber optic tree. I got it on clearance at Target last year. I got it all set up and the ac adapter plug was missing, grrrr. I was able to find a plug to make it work, yeah!
That's it! Is you house all ready for Christmas?

Happy December!

Welcome December!!

24 Days until Christmas
My shopping is almost complete
My gifts are all wrapped
3 Christmas trees are all trimmed and lit
The stockings are hung by the chimney with care
The Halls have been decked
The Christmas Cards have arrived and are ready to be addressed
The Christmas stamps have been purchased and are ready to go on the cards
24 Days until Christmas!!!

We can't wait.

I'll take lots of pictures this month of our holiday happenings and share them with you all!

Don't forget.....Jesus is the real reason for the season. Take time daily to spend time with Him. If he wasn't born, we wouldn't have a savior!
Thank you Jesus.

Christmas World Tour 2008 . trip 2

Trip #2
We left for Columbus Ohio on Monday Dec 28th. We planned to visit Dennis' mother, who was in town from Florida and Dennis' oldest brother and his family. Our friends from Cleveland just happened to be in Columbus Monday and Tuesday so we made plans to include them in our visit.
.
.
Here we all are at the Mexican resturant.

Isaiah made a face with rice, french fries and the chocolate syrup left on his desert plate. Such a creative child.

Our friends Rich, Jodi and Joshua from the Cleveland area

The next leg of our journey was to drive down to West Virginia to see Dennis' brother Mike. Along the way we passed through Rio Grande OH - home of - if you didn't already know- the famous Bob Evan's orginal farm and homestead. I begged Dennis to take me by to see it. I always see pictures of it on the menu. I need a life!

That's all for Trip 2. Stay tuned tomorrow for Trip #3 and some New Years Eve fun!
